Staff at shire company Milestone Civil are rallying to help their colleague Joseph Bechara whose bride, Francheska, 26, has suffered multiple strokes while on their honeymoon in New York.
Joseph and Francheska are now facing a medical bill which could exceed $300,000 as she recovers from brain surgery.
The news has shocked his colleges at Milestone Civic at Miranda where Joseph has worked the past six years.
His colleague, Ben Didonato has started a gofundme page in support of Joseph and Francheska and has so far raised $78,000 towards a goal of $300,000 which would go towards their medical bill expenses.
“When we heard the incredible, crazy cost of medical care in the states we had to do something to help,” Ben said.
“While they had travel insurance a lot of the costs are upfront, and Joseph has the cost of staying there for three to four months while Francheska recovers.”
According to the gofundme page, Joseph and Francheska met just over eight years ago at their local church. It was love at first sight and they have been working since then to save for the perfect wedding which they celebrated on the October 7 with friends and family.
“They set off for their three-week honeymoon touring the United states. On the second day of their honeymoon in New York, Joe found Fran unconscious in the gym.
“She was rushed to hospital. The doctors told Joe that Francheska had suffered from multiple strokes.
“Francheska has undergone three major brain surgeries to reduce the swelling, which is now only the start of the recovery.
“Joe has been informed that it will be a three to four month recovery stateside as it is impossible for Francheska to travel.
“Joe will need help with accommodation, hospital fees (we all know the U.S.A health system is expensive), rehab costs, living expenses.
“All the costs are upfront and we want to help Francheska and Joe get through this horrific time.
“We also want to make sure after this terrible event they won’t struggle when they return home. Joe also just bought their first home in Sydney's West as well which they were planning to move into after their honeymoon.
“This is another cost he has to think about while he is looking after his bride. We want to eliminate all the financial stress for this beautiful couple so they can focus on Francheska's recovery.”
