Pillows, pyjamas and groups of friends having fun seems like a typical sleepover, but there will be a greater purpose to an evening at Marist College Penshurst this month.
On October 26 the school will host a Girls’ Night In event for Cancer Council NSW, to help create a future free from breast and gynaecological cancers.
More than 80 students will wear pink and enjoy a night of karaoke, trivia and nail art, to raise money that will fund vital research into women’s cancers, prevention and advocacy programs, and support services.
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education teacher, Nicole Katrib, says this is the second year that the school has held the fundraising evening.
“The event also coincides with the two year anniversary of a much loved staff member, Mary Beretov, who passed away from breast cancer,” she said.
“The community are rallying behind this event to show their support. Many local businesses have provided prizes and services for the mega raffle.
“We hope to raise around $4000 this year.”
It is easy to host a Girls’ Night In event – from a movie night to a pamper evening, a clothes swap or a simple dinner, women of all ages are encouraged to get involved.
