A hugely successful film festival that grew its roots from Sutherland Shire is back for another year.
Film By The Sea is an annual event that highlights the talents of about 15 primary schools on screen.
On October 24, Event Cinemas at Westfield Miranda will come alive with characters of all sorts, rolling out the red carpet for the showing of 20 short films produced by students.
So far, two cinemas have sold out and tickets for the third are selling quickly.
Film by the Sea supports the establishment of community-based short film communities and festivals for NSW public schools.
It originated as a project from Miranda Public School in 2011, and fast grew into 19 festivals state-wide, with schools producing more than 800 high quality, entertaining and informative short films so far.
It was there that a small group of dedicated teachers saw the potential in creating a fun and educational project that teaches children about film studies.
The aim of the festival is to encourage children to learn through visual literacy – a core element in the NSW English syllabus.
Through film-making, students learn collaborative and problem-solving skills while gaining valuable knowledge of the digital world.
Red carpet arrivals are from 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
