The rich melting pot of cultures that call St George home will unite for an annual celebration of diversity this month.
Rockdale Town Hall will come alive in colourful performances on October 24, when Advance Diversity Services and partners host Migrant Information Day again.
Building spirit and bringing cultures together will be marked by the theme this year, connecting communities.
The free event provides handy information about government and non-government services to recently arrived migrants to the area.
These include health, housing, employment and immigration, and multi-lingual speakers will be available to help translate valuable information.
Community development worker from Advance Diversity Services, Jenny Tang, said about 500 people are expected this year.
“Gathering the many services available in one place to easily share information with newly-arrived migrants and refugees is a fantastic way to welcome and support those settling in our community,” she said.
“The cultural performances and other activities celebrate the richness of diversity, and make for a fun day.”
The event is supported by Bayside and Georges River councils, Kogarah Community Services, Navitas English, NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors, NSW Health - South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, and TAFE NSW.
The day will be celebrated from 9.30am-12.30pm.
