The Moving Picture Show is presenting a rare chance for movie-goers to return to the era of silent movies.
Jan Thorp, organiser of the Moving Picture Show Is presenting Men of Action, starring Douglas Fairbanks in The Mark of Zorro, the original swashbuckler film made in 1920, at the Mortdale RSL Club next month.
“The main show features the original action man long before Johnny Depp was Errol Flynn,” Jan said.
‘But even before him and the man that even today modern films base a lot of their films on was Douglas Fairbanks.
“We are showing one of his best films, The Mark of Zorro. It has been endlessly copied but it is still the best.’
The show features The Moving Picture Show orchestra with Bernard Walz on the piano accompanying the film with music used by Sydney theatres for silent movie shows in the 1920s.
“We also have a man who does all the sound effects as they were done then. Electronics not allowed,” Jan said.
The main feature will be supported by a short film, Bridie’s Last Stand, a modern take on silent movies made by local children.
“The film has been done on on an Iphone is about two minutes lone and will be shown with the music provided by The Moving Picture Show orchestra,” Jan said.
The Moving Picture Show returns to the Mortdale RSL Club on Sunday, November 4 at 2pm.
