Georges River Council is calling on community members to submit nominations for its 2019 Australia Day Awards.
The council’s prestigious Australia Day Awards present an opportunity to recognise and honour individuals who have contributed significantly to the Georges River community.
Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene is encouraging community members to get involved and nominate their local hero.
“Council’s annual Australia Day Awards are a great opportunity to acknowledge the individuals within the Georges River area who go above and beyond to support the local community,” Councillor Greene said.
“It’s an opportunity for Council to thank Georges River residents who represent the community spirit and motivate others to get involved in community initiatives.
“The awards include three categories - Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year, and I encourage you to nominate your local hero so that we can officially recognise their work in the community.
“Georges River community members can make nominations via an online form where they will need to outline the nominees’ achievements and community contributions.
“Council’s 2018 Australia Day Awards enabled us to acknowledge three community heroes - Ms Maureen Finch as Volunteer of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Mr Cooper Bennett and Citizen of the Year, Mr Bryan Pirie,” Cr Greene said.
“If you think there is someone in the community that deserves to be recognised at next year’s awards, then head to Council’s website and fill out a nomination form.”
Nominees must be an Australian citizen and live in the Georges River Council local government area. The winners will be announced at the Georges River Council Australia Day Festival at Carss Bush Park on January 26, 2019.
