Sydney Wind Symphony will present the concert program Curtain Up at Miranda on November 24.
The concert will feature the highly talented, rising trumpet star from the Sutherland Shire, Jenna Smith.
Smith, 23, who grew up at Como, began playing the trumpet aged 7.
While attending Fort Street High School at Petersham she was invited to take part in the Rising Stars 13-week program for gifted musicians at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Jenna completed her Bachelor of Music performance degree with first class honours in 2016, studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Andrew Evans.
While a student, she received the Ted and Susan Meller Memorial Scholarship, the James Witheford Foundation Award for Brass, and the Busby Musical Scholarship.
Smith is now into her second year as a Trumpet Fellow in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO) Fellowship Program.
She has performed with the Sydney and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras and the SSO Sinfonia.
In 2016, she was a member of the Australian World Orchestra’s Academy Program and toured to Singapore.
She has performed as the Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) Principal Trumpet in 2017.
The concert program at the Port Hacking High School Hall will feature the colourful and energetic Arutiunian Trumpet Concerto - performed by Smith – which has a unique folk-influence and virtuosic passages.
Also featured will be a tribute to Bernstein’s 100th anniversary the lively Overture to Candide, the cornerstone wind band music of Gustav Holst, Zodiac Dances by Philip Sparke, music from Cinderella by Patrick Doyle and more.
One of the Port Hacking High School ensembles will also perform at the concert.
