A Monterey lawyer has been charged over his alleged role in the murder of a teenager from Sydney’s south-west last year.
Police were called to a home on Moresby Avenue, Glenfield, about 6.10am on Friday, April 14 2017, and found 15-year-old Brayden Dillon in bed with a gunshot wound to his head.
He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition, where he later died.
An investigation was launched by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, assisted by the NSW Crime Commission and South West Metropolitan Region, under Strike Force Wongala.
Six people have previously been charged by investigators. They remain before the courts.
Following further investigations, Strike Force Wongala investigators attended a home at Monterey about 2pm yesterday, and approached a 38-year-old male resident as he arrived.
The man then drove from the location.
A short time later, strike force investigators executed search warrants at the Monterey home, an office in Sydney CBD, and a storage unit at Bexley.
During the searches, investigators seized electronic stun devices, more than $30,000 cash, mobile phones, laptops and computers, documentation, and other items relevant to the investigation.
Following further inquiries, the man was arrested at Surry Hills Police Station just after 6am today.
Ali Abbas, 38, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder, knowingly participate in criminal group assist crime, and do act with intent to pervert the course of justice.
Police will allege in court that the man coordinated and facilitated of the provision of false affidavits on behalf of others and passed information relating to the murder between various people.
Strike Force Raptor also charged the man with unlawfully bring anything into place of detention.
It will be alleged the man took a mobile phone into a correctional facility to be used by an inmate.
The man, who is a solicitor, has been refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.
Abbas is the seventh person to be arrested in connection with Brayden Dillon’s death on April 14 last year.
He has previously represented high profile clients including deceased former Comanchero boss Mahmoud "Mick" Hawi and disgraced former police detective Glen McNamara who was given a life sentences for the murder of Hurstville teenager Jamie Gao.
With more arrests expected, the number of people charged with links to the Dillon’s death could still reach 10.
