As this year’s year 12 students near the end of the final year HSC exams, the non-profit charity encourages recent graduates to take advantage of assistance on offer.
Zac, who works for MGL Logistics at Caringbah, was part of NOVA’s transition school to employment program, to help get him job-ready.
Managing director of the freight company, Jim Merrigan, hired Zac, who updates sailing schedules, performs reception duties and supports the IT system.
“Zac has been a real bonus to have on the team here,” Mr Merrigan said.
The service is also a benefit to Zac’s self-esteem.
“My favourite thing about having a job is getting out of the house a lot,” Zac said. “I'm more confident, more independent. I'm now earning more money.”
All NOVA services are free and fully funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme and the Department of Social Services.
