An out of control truck has ploughed through several cars and into a unit complex at Fairy Meadow this morning.
About 10.45am police and emergency services were called to a carpark at the intersection of Mount Ousley Road and the Princes Highway, Fairy Meadow, after reports of a truck crash.
The truck has gone through a roundabout into a McDonald’s car park colliding with at least three cars before pinning a fourth car up against the fence of the North Gate unit complex.
Seven ambulance crews responded to the incident.
Paramedics are treating a number of patients including a 35-year-old male in a serious condition, a 17-year-old female and a woman in her 50’s with minor injuries.
The truck driver in his 20s is being treated for lower back injuries.
The Hino table top truck was carrying a load of building material.
A witness who was parked close by told the Illawarra Mercury he saw a truck “fly through the roundabout and up over a couple of cars”.
The man said he ran to the back of Maccas to help the driver out of the truck and then around to the woman who was in the car.
The male truck driver has been transported to Wollongong hospital, as has the female driver of the car that was pinned.
Another female driver is being treated at the scene.
The McDonald’s restaurant has been closed and is expected to remain closed for most of the day.
St George and Sutherland Shire residents travelling down to the University of Wollongong are being warned to expect traffic in the area.
