Sutherland Shire Symphony Orchestra (SSSO) will embark on one of its most ambitious performances to date when it presents Handel’s Messiah on December 9 at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre.
The performance will feature not only the orchestra, soloists and choir, but will bring the audience in to join the vocal chorus on well-loved sections such as the famous “Hallelujah Chorus”.
The shire’s own symphony orchestra will bid farewell to 2018 from 2.30pm at the entertainment centre, with a special interactive performance designed for everyone to participate in, according to the SSSO’s principal conductor and musical Director, Dr Anthony Clarke.
“This performance is envisioned as The Shire’s Messiah , Dr Clarke said.
“I have been reminding our audiences for quite a while now about our plans for the whole auditorium to join us as one in Handel’s signature oratorio.
“It doesn’t matter if people think they can or can’t sing, the idea is to come together, have fun and make some wonderful music as a massed choir and orchestra as we see out our concert year for 2018.
“The orchestra has really been buoyed by the great support we’ve received from our audiences again this year, and we will look forward to bringing more music to life in the shire during 2019.”
The December concert will feature soloists Juliette Moon (Soprano), Chanyang Choi (Alto), Matt Reardon (Tenor) and Andrew Smith (Bass).
The concert will also feature members of choir’s from the Sydney area, Canberra and Melbourne as well as the general public who would like to participate.
More details and a copy of the vocal music are available by contacting the orchestra’s secretary via email at secretary@ssso.org.
Dr Clarke would encourage anyone interested in singing to come and join the two open choir rehearsals.
