Christmas pudding queen Mandy Krywulycz, owner of Kurnell-based Itha’s Puddings, will be spreading festive cheer at a new market in Miranda this year.
The Miranda Christmas Market, in the old RTA offices next door to Spotlight in the Kiora Mall at Miranda, will be selling Itha’s famous traditional puddings along with other gift ideas and traditional festive fare.
‘‘We are in a new and larger location in Miranda this year,’’ Ms Krywulycz said.
‘‘Since the space is so big at this new location we have invited in eight other stall holders who have a variety of products ranging from children’s clothes to lavender products and photograph sessions to join us.
‘‘It is a great place to do your Christmas shopping while at the same time revitalising the Kiora Mall in a space that has been vacant for over 2 1/2 years.’’
In 2012 Itha’s Traditional Plum Pudding was named the best Christmas pudding in Australia by independent consumer watchdog Choice.
"Testers liked the homemade appearance, well prepared fruit and the consistency of the cake mixture," Choice said at the time.
Itha’s Puddings is a family business operated by Ms Krywulycz and her mother Itha Sanford.
Every Itha’s pudding is individually handmade with top quality fruit and ingredients following a recipe Mrs Sanford has been using for more than 50 years which was inherited from her grandmother.
It is believed the recipe dates back to at least 1912.
Puddings are cooked up to ten hours and then hung to age and mature, ensuring each pudding is unique with the look, feel and taste of yesteryear.
‘‘The traditional recipe is also the base for our very popular Gluten Free pudding which tastes so great most of our GF clients feed it to everyone at their table (and they don’t even know!),’’ Ms Krywulycz said.
This year, at the Australian Food Awards, Itha’s Puddings picked up a gold medal for flagship Traditional Pudding and also for their new Fig & Pear Pudding and their Apricot & Macadamia Pudding.
Itha’s will soon be featured on SBS TV’s Small Business Secrets program which goes to air on December 16 at 5pm.
- The Miranda Christmas Market is open Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 5.30pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
