Get the giant Santa, tinsel and big festive bulbs out, the search to find Sutherland Shire best decorated house this Christmas is on.

Sutherland Shire Council has launched #LightUpTheShire, so get ready to flick the switch for the annual competition.

Thanks to the support of Club Central, Highland Property Agents, Cronulla RSL and Westfield Miranda, there are many prizes on offer.

Sutherland Mayor Councillor Carmelo Pesce is calling on residents to dress up their homes, submit a photo and spread the Christmas cheer.

“This is a great opportunity for our community to get into the festive spirit,” he said.

“Residents always put on amazing Christmas light displays and I’ve already seen some great examples this year.

“I’m asking the community to come together in a show of friendly festive competition and let’s show everyone how bright Sutherland Shire can shine.

“With the help of a judging panel, I will be shortlisting the best ‘Light Up the Shire’ submissions, but then it’s over to our community to vote on first, second, third and fourth prize.”

People can submit their photos via the council’s Facebook page. The photo with the most ‘likes’ will win.

Winners will be chosen on December 20.
