Woronora Memorial Park will be celebrating the spirit of Christmas with their ‘Carols by Candlelight’ event on Saturday, December 8, commencing from 6:30pm.
The event has become a community favourite of the festive season, with more 1000 visitors attending last year.
Christmas Carols in the Memorial Park allows families and friends from the community to share the night, which celebrates the traditional spirit of Christmas.
“The audience will be treated to a variety of carols, led by the The ‘Christmas Crackers’ band, said Graham Boyd, Chief Executive Officer at Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries NSW.
“Many children took the opportunity to dance while singing along with the ‘Christmas Crackers’ last year. This year at Woronora Memorial Park there might even be a special visit from Santa.”
There will be face painting, balloon animals, free sausage sizzle, as well as colouring in activities for children of all ages to participate.
Families who attend are welcome to bring a picnic blanket, we will provide chairs, and relax and enjoy a picnic on the lawn while listening to the angelic voices of the ‘Christmas Crackers’ as they take full advantage of traditional Christmas Carols.
In support of this community event, a non-compulsory gold coin donation for a candle or carols booklet will be given to Anglicare Toys ‘n’ Tucker Christmas Appeal. Gift suggestions can include non-perishable food items, or children’s toys in original packaging.
This will help provide food and gifts for those who would otherwise go without at Christmas.
Christmas is a special time for every family. It is a time of joy, a time of Hope.
“A member of the community said that she had been looking for a reason to come back to the cemetery after losing a loved one and our Carols fill this void, ‘’ said Mr Boyd.
“For some families, the joy of Christmas can be tinged with sadness. Many families who have experienced the pain of losing a loved one seek solace each Christmas by visiting loved ones at their place of rest, often sharing the experience with other families and friends.
“The Staff and I find comfort in knowing that the Carols within our grounds provide a time and place for families to be part of an important community activity.”
All members of the community are invited to attend Woronora Memorial Park’s annual Christmas Carols at 6:30pm on Saturday, December 8 at 121 Linden Street Sutherland.
