Cronulla Point’s presentation night is this weekend.
Summer is upon us in Cronulla with a week of small and onshore waves doing their best to discourage surfers from finding a good surf.
Early low tides have not helped with a 2 ft East-Nor East swell just giving enough to be annoying-the forecast is no good for today with tiny waves predicted but it does show some promise later in the week with an increasing Nor east swell hitting its straps from about Thursday morning reaching 4-6ft on Saturday.
The only downer is the winds will also be onshore almost every day, with a brief respite on Friday with some friendly offshores.
The Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons, the final stop on the 2018 World Surf League Men’s Championship Tour , has been called off for a fourth consecutive day today.
With decreasing 3-to-5 foot NE swell with gusty NE side shore winds, event organizers will continue to wait for improved conditions before calling the competition on . With a new NW swell forecasted to build later today, the event looks likely to start tomorrow.
“We are expecting a new swell to fill in through the later part of tomorrow, and then we are going to have waves from there on for four-to-five days with another swell building on Sunday.”Kieren Perrow, WSL Commissioner said.
Connor O’Leary is in heat 6 with Gabriel Medina and a qualifier from the Pipe Invitational Round 1 Matchup which is never easy because they are real locals.
Finally ,17-year-old Brazilian prodigy Mateus Herdy has claimed victory at the Taiwan Open World Junior Championship in solid windblown conditions at Jinzun Harbour.
Herdy was the surfer to beat all week, posting excellent scores in every heat he surfed. He saved his best performance for the Final where he posted a two-wave total of 18.37 (out of a possible 20) to overcome Californian Eithan Osborne (USA).
