You’ll have more time to lick the stamps and seal the envelopes on traditional Christmas cards and gifts this year.

The opening times of several Australia Post outlets in Sutherland Shire have been extended.

Menai, Cronulla, Bangor, Sutherland and Engadine will open its doors for longer until December 21.

With less than a month until Christmas, it means the busiest holiday period has begun – and letters and presents will have a greater chance of getting to their destination before the merry day.

Australia Post general manager post office network David McNamara says extended trading hours will give customers more choice and convenience.

“We know Christmas is a really busy time of the year so we are giving our customers greater flexibility to come in and send all their presents, or pick them up, when it best suits them,” Mr McNamara said.

“With the online shopping boom continuing, we’re delivering record volumes and we want to make sure our customers have convenient access to our products and services to help them get ready for the big day.

“Last year we delivered 37 million parcels in December and we’re expecting to exceed that number this year, so it’s all hands on deck.”

Australians have shopped up a storm this year, with parcels growing 10 per cent domestically.

“Our customers love the convenience of online shopping and we want to make sure they have a great delivery experience,” Mr McNamara said.

“By keeping our doors open longer, we’re making it easier for them to come in and collect, or send, their parcels.”

Along with extended trading hours, Australia Post customers also have the option of collecting their Christmas gifts at one of 330 free 24/7 parcel lockers across the country, and can track their deliveries more easily with improvements in parcel tracking.

Earlier this month, Australia Post announced a record number of additional workers – close to 3000.
