Pupils from Connells Point Public School were front and centre on television on Monday morning, sharing their dedication for helping underprivileged students with a national audience.
Madiba Project Incorporated, which was invited to be part of Channel 7 Sam Mac’s weather report to highlight the work that the non-profit organisation does in helping disadvantaged children in Sierra Leone.
Connells Point Public School have embraced the project, and have collected and donated learning materials and furniture including old tables and chairs, to those who need it the most.
Madiba Project helps relieve the poverty of underprivileged and communities that have been affected by misfortune or natural disaster.
Project founder and NSW Department of Education school learning support officer, Mikhail Kallon, thanked pupils for their support.
He became passionate about educating young people after he saw how poor schooling conditions were in his native country during a return trip.
The charity drive has also been a learning experience for children in the Sutherland Shire classroom.
“We’ve enjoyed giving to people who aren’t as fortunate because throughout this journey we’ve figured out how lucky we are to have a great school and great education, and we just wanted to give some more people that opportunity,” pupil Sophie, who is part of the school’s student representative council, said.
