A man has been charged and another is in a critical condition in hospital following a serious crash in Connells Point yesterday afternoon.
Police are investigating if the driver was involved in a street race.
About 1.35pm a Toyota Corolla was travelling north on Connells Point Road when it crossed onto the opposite side of the road, striking a parked BMW, before flipping onto its side.
The front-seat passenger, a 19-year-old man, suffered serious head and internal injuries, and was taken to St George Hospital in a critical condition.
The driver of the Corolla, an 18-year-old man, escaped injury and was taken for mandatory blood and urine testing.
A black Mercedes, which was travelling in front of the Corolla at the time of the crash, left the scene but was later seized by police at a Sylvania address.
The driver of that vehicle, an 18-year-old man, will be interviewed as part of the investigation.
After being released from hospital, the Corolla driver was taken to St George Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, drive at speed and manner dangerous, and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm. His licence was suspended.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on January 29.
Police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit continue to conduct inquiries.
Investigators are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam vision that could assist the investigation, to come forward and contact police.
