Leader photographer Chis Lane took these photos of the Cronulla Rock Pool this morning which has been closed for cleaning and maintenance.
The pool was closed for scheduled maintenance several times during 2018, most recenty in November and December.
But recent tides have seen the pool fill with sand again necessitating the first closure for 2019. Council staff are working to ensure the pool is ready for the busy Australia Day weekend when Cronulla will experience capacity crowds.
Meanwhile, the beaches are expected to be crowded today with temperatures forecast to range from 24 degrees to a maximum of 37 degrees and with 60 per cent chance of rain.
On Sunday, there will be some relief with temperatures expected to reach on 23 degrees with a 60 per cent chance of rain.
Temperatures are expected to be similar on Monday before hitting the low 30s again on Tuesday and Wednesday, when it is predicted to reach 32 degrees, with a 70 per cent chance of rain.
