It is a busy week for the Sky Blues. Sydney FC face a trip to Perth to take on the table-topping Glory tonight before returning to play their fifth match at Kogarah this season on Sunday.
After a slow start to life at Jubilee with losses to Melbourne Victory and Wellington, Sydney FC have scored consecutive wins including their 5-2 victory over the Central Coast on Friday night.
And the club’s fans in the St George district and Sutherland Shire have turned up to support. More than 53,000 spectators have attended Sydney FC’s four home games at Jubilee so far this season, with most glowing in their praise for the atmosphere and match day experience.
Shire junior Calver, who turns 23 on Saturday, has impressed since his return to the starting side. Calver has started Sydney’s last four games as the Sky Blues have gone on a four-match winning streak.
He celebrated with his first A-League goal against the Mariners, a sumptuous volley from an acute angle in added time to seal the victory.
Alex Brosque’s first A-League hat-trick was the highlight of the win over the Central Coast, with the veteran striker delighted with his effort.
“I’m very happy, I’ve been finding it tough the last couple of games to get chances to get goals but tonight they fell nicely. It was nice to get the win and a few goals as well,” Brosque said.
“It’s my first hat-trick in the Hyundai A-League, the last one I got was back in the NSL so a long time ago.
“The chip stands out for me. To be honest I ran out of legs and I thought I’m not going to out run him so I might as well try and shoot from here and thankfully it went in.”
Sky Blues coach Steve Corica was thrilled with the second half performance of his side against the Mariners.
“We were a little bit slow to start again but once they went down to 10 men I could only see it going one way,” he said.
“We played very good football so I’m really pleased and it could have been a lot more than what it was. Alex Brosque was unbelievable, I thought he was excellent.”
