Georges River Council has announced the entertainment line-up for its Australia Day Festival at Carss Bush Park, on Saturday, January 26 will be headlined by hip-hop hitmakers Justice Crew.
The Australia Day Festival has attracted large crowds for over 25 years, with its entertainment program showcasing great live music, diverse cultural performances, entertainers and market stallholders.
More than 20,000 people visited the event in 2018 and the 2019 event is anticipated to be just as popular, with Justice Crew headlining the entertainment.
Winners of the fourth season of Australia’s Got Talent, the dance and music group Justice Crew have recorded the hits Boom Boom, Everybody and Que Sera and have toured with the likes of Chris Brown, Janet Jackson, One Direction and Pitbull.
The Australia Day Festival program of entertainment will also include a Farnham and Friends Tribute Show and a special visit from Peter Rabbit.
Georges River Council mayor Kevin Greene is encouraging local residents to gather to celebrate the day, welcome new Australians and to recognise local residents who have gone above and beyond for the community.
“Festival goers are encouraged to arrive by 10.00am, to see the event kick off with a traditional Aboriginal performance from a didgeridoo master and a smoking ceremony,” Councillor Greene said.
“Council will also be announcing Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year, just prior to our Citizenship Ceremony where we will welcome all new citizens to our local government area.”
Community members will have the opportunity to soak up the festival atmosphere as they peruse market and food stalls and enjoy rides and activities.
The event will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display over Kogarah Bay at 9pm.
The Georges River Council Major Events Advisory Committee Chair, Councillor Vince Badalati, described the importance of hosting inclusive community events in the Georges River area.
“We recognise the significant role local events play in fostering harmony within the community, and the Australia Day Festival sees people from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds coming together to celebrate the strong community spirit and cultural diversity that resides in our country,” Cr Badalati said.
