George Kambosos Junior will step up to the biggest challenge of his career next weekend, on one of world boxing’s biggest stages.
The 25-year-old will fight Puerto Rican veteran Rolando Chinea on the undercard to legendary boxer Manny Pacquiao’s world title fight against Adrien Broner in Las Vegas next Saturday.
Kambosos has served as Pacquiao’s chief sparring partner for his third consecutive training camp at the Wild Card Boxing Gym in Hollywood, California.
Kambosos, from Sylvania, is world-ranked and undefeated. The lightweight has a 15-0 professional record including nine knock outs and is ranked ninth by the World Boxing Organisation and 11th by the International Boxing Federation.
Kambosos made his US debut in May last year when he knocked out Jose Forero in the first round. His last bout was a technical knockout victory over JR Magboo in Kuala Lumpur in July on another Pacquiao undercard.
Kambosos has had his sights set on winning a world title for a number of years. If he is to score a victory over the experienced Chinea over eight rounds on one of boxing’s biggest stages – the MGM Grand in Vegas – he will ensure people are forced to take notice.
“I’m looking forward to showcasing what I possess in the ring,” he said.
“He likes to bring the fight and so do I but the difference between a good fighter and an elite fighter will be evident from the opening bell.
“I have had a tremendous camp sparring a legend in Manny Pacquiao and I will make Chinea feel every bit of the hard work and sacrifice we have put in to be victorious.
“Being my third camp as Pacquiao’s chief sparring partner has been vital to my career and my growth as a fighter.
“As a young fighter on the verge of winning a world title, these camps alongside greatness is what gives me the edge on my world title journey.”
Pacquiao and Broner will fight for the World Boxing Association welterweight title.
