Georges River Council’s popular Lunar New Year Festival returns tomorrow kicking off with a street parade of colourful floats down Forest Road, Hurstville to welcome in the Year of the Pig.
Mayor Kevin Greene, said this year’s Lunar New Year Festival, will feature a vibrant mix of live entertainment, cultural activities and traditional food.
“I am pleased to be bringing the Lunar New Year Festival to the Georges River area for the sixteenth year, with a vibrant event that is a feast for the senses, and a place where visitors can immerse themselves in local culture and customs,” Councillor Greene said.
“The festival will feature several spectacular live performances including headline act, singer, Wah Dee, who won the ‘Jacky Cheung look-a-like’ contest on Beijing TV.”
Celebrations will include Chinese fire crackers, Lion Dancers, stilt walkers, live entertainment, inflatable Zodiac animals, amusement rides, cultural performances, cooking demonstrations, an animal farm, 7D cinema and a visit from Kung Fu Panda.
Festival visitors will be able to sample the many stalls along Forest Road and try many traditional offerings including food like dragon beard candy, Chinese dumplings and Malaysian noodles.
