The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) will consider a $300 a year rates rise for apartments and home units in Sutherland Shire.
A special council meeting on Monday night resolved to proceed with the application for the variation from rate pegging for 2019-20 following a period of public consultation.
The application needs to be submitted to IPART by February 11 and the council is due to to be notified of the outcome in May.
The proposed variation would increase the minimum rate, which is paid by unit and apartment owners, from $602.30 to $900.
About 1500 business properties also pay the minimum rate.
Rates for all other properties will rise by the 2.7 per cent limit set by the state government.
The council estimates the increase in the minimum rate will generate an additional $7.255 million per year.
