A former teacher living in Mortdale is facing charges of indecent assault and common assault against his teenage students in Coffs Harbour.
Police allege that Howard Spearing, 60, committed two indecent assaults - victim under the authority of offender - and five counts of common assault against four teenage girls at Orara High School.
Detectives from the Coffs Harbour Child Abuse Squad worked with local police to investigate the claims of the students, who were aged 12, 13 and 14 at the time of the alleged offences.
Mr Spearing, who was a legal studies teacher, fronted Coffs Harbour local court on Wednesday, where he was granted strict conditional bail.
Since leaving the school last year, Mr Spearing has moved to Mortdale and is required to report daily to the Hurstville Police Station.
He is banned from entering Coffs Harbour and Orara unless it is to attend court, and was required to pay a $5,000 surety to guarantee his conditional liberty.
