Kogarah will host Australian women’s football’s showpiece event on Saturday with Sydney FC to take on Perth Glory in the W-League grand final.
The newly-named Netstrata Jubilee Stadium was chosen after the Sky Blues earned the right to host the championship decider when they beat Brisbane Roar 2-1 at Dolphin Stadium, Redcliffe on Sunday night.
The match will kick-off at 4.30pm and will feature a host of Matildas including Perth superstar Sam Kerr and Sydney FC’s Chloe Logarzo and Caitlin Foord.
It will be back to back grand finals for Sydney FC who are looking to go one better than last season when they lost 2-0 to Melbourne City.
The Sky Blues have lost two of the last three W-League grand finals and haven’t won the title since the 2012-13 season. They also won the 2009 decider.
Sydney FC finished third after the regular season, forcing them into an away semi-final against the Roar.
With Perth also upsetting champions Melbourne Victory, the Sky Blues were allocated hosting rights for the final as the top-ranked team.
Foord gave Sydney the lead against Brisbane just after the half hour mark before Sofia Huerta doubled the advantage with 20 minutes to play.
Yuki Nagasto pulled a goal back two minutes into stoppage time but Sydney held on to secure victory and their place in the grand final.
“I’m happy we’ve almost reached our potential and we have the grand final to get there,” Huerta said.
“I have so much respect for Perth. We’re excited to be able to host the grand final and hopefully bring home the trophy to Sydney.”
Foord said she was looking forward to the grand final after missing the 2017-18 decider after rupturing her Lisfranc ligament in her foot in the semi-final win over Newcastle.
“I’m super excited. Sitting out last year was never fun so I was never going to let us lose,” she said.
“I think this season myself and the whole team have built on the slow start. We’ve shown a lot of determination and improvement to get where we are.
“We’ll focus on ourselves this week and we still have a lot of potential. I think if we are at our best, we can beat anyone.”
