Georges River Council will hold an extraordinary general meeting tonight to re-examine the Expressions of Interest (EOI) process for the sponsor naming rights of Jubilee Stadium.
This follows a complaint by local businessman Norman Sarraf who said he was excluded from the EOI process by the council.
This claim has been denied by the council.
On January 31, the council named local strata management company Network Strata Services Pty Ltd, known as Netstrata, as the naming rights sponsor for Jubilee Stadium.
Following Mr Sarraf’s complaint, a rescission motion was filed by Councillors Con Hindi, Vince Badalati and Rita Kastanias bringing on tonight’s extraordinary council meeting.
Mr Sarraf, managing director of Sarraf Strata has called for the tender for the stadium’s naming rights to be reopened.
Mr Sarraf, who is a NSW Corporate Partners of Camp Quality NSW, the children’s cancer charity, said he wanted to name Jubilee Stadium as Camp Quality Stadium.
He said that his company, Sarraf Strata was excluded from applying for the stadium naming rights because he was deemed a developer.
Mr Sarraf said he is not a developer and that the council’s decision was based on a development application for a dual occupancy that was lodged by his brother, who works for Sarraf Strata. He said that this DA was approved two years ago.
Georges River Council said that Mr Sarraf and/or Sarraf Strata were not excluded from applying for the naming rights.
Mr Sarraf said when he found he was not on the shortlist, he rang the council for an explanation and was blocked from contact the councillors.
The council has denied this.
He said he wrote to the council council asking to be advised when the EOI was sent out but was not contacted.
The council said that in response to a request in March 2018, Mr Sarraf was advised the same day that the EOI process was going to the council meeting on 26 March, 2018.
The council said the EOI process was highly confidential, including the details of all tendering parties.
The extraordinary meeting will be closed to the public as that under the Local Government Act the matter concerns legal advice concerning litigation or advice that is otherwise the subject of legal professional privilege.
However, immediately following consideration of the item in closed session, the council will move to open session to adopt the recommendations arising from the closed session.
