Local Chinese seniors have ushered in the Year of the Pig with a traditional Chinese dance performance at Hurstville’s Senior Citizens and Community Centre last Thursday.
The Lunar New Year celebrations was organised by the Chinese Australian Services Society (CASS) who hosts weekly group dance social gatherings for local Chinese seniors.
The dance gatherings are a great opportunity for local Mandarin and Cantonese speaking seniors to socialise and make new friendships in the local area.
CASS delivers a range of community services for clients from a culturally or linguistically diverse background, including aged care, disability, settlement and health services and child care.
The celebrations were attended by Barton MP Linda Burney.
“The Lunar New Year is another important opportunity for us to spend time with family and loved ones, and it’s great to see the local community come together for this special occasion,” Ms Burney said.
Also attending were CASS honorary executive director, Henry Pan, other state and local representatives, as well as the seniors group’s family and friends.
“Local Chinese seniors enjoy the celebration very much, as they are here to meet with friends, share the joy of the New Year, and wish each other healthy and prosperity in the year of the Pig,” Mr Pan said.
