Bayside Council last week hosted the Southern Sydney Chinese Cultural and Entertainment Centre as they showcased their traditional culture through song, dance and musical instruments in the Rockdale Town Hall.
More than 500 people attended to welcome the Lunar New Year – the Year of the Pig – and enjoy the colourful cultural experience.
Guests included Rockdale MP Steve Kamper and Kogarah MP Chris Minns.
Bayside Council has a growing Chinese Community.
The 2016 census data indicated 46 percent of Bayside residents were born overseas, with the largest community making their home here coming from China.
“Bayside is proudly a diverse, multicultural community and the Council welcomes all opportunities to showcase the great cultural wealth that this brings,” Bayside Mayor Bill Saravinovski said.
“It was wonderful to celebrate the Lunar New Year with our community.”
