Jannali East Public School pupils are playing host to 28 visiting students and their teachers from Jinan Waihai School, China.
The visitors were formally welcomed to the school with a traditional smoking ceremony and blessing of the Australian and Aboriginal flags, performed by Dean Kelly.
The students and their hosts visited Symbio Wildlife Park and interacted with koalas and kangaroos, and participated in a local area walk around Jannali and Como.
They joined in regular lessons at school with their year 5 and 6 buddies, learning about Australian native flora and fauna and also attended the school's swimming carnival .
Principal of Jannali East Public School, Katherine Horner, said it was a great opportunity for the children to interact with and learn about culture.
The visiting students stayed with Jannali East families for two weeks and experienced life in Australia participating in all the regular activities that the families would normally do on the weekends and after school.
The students were amazed with the open spaces and beautiful natural setting of the school, and the whole Sutherland Shire area. The experience was a terrific opportunity for students to be involved in bridging the cultural divide, the school said.
