A Kogarah community radio station is handing the airwaves over to the women of St George in celebration of International Women's Day, held in March.
90.1 NBC FM is inviting its female listeners and other women in the area to participate in radio workshops.
The station received about $2700 from Women NSW to undertake the project, which gives female presenters the chance to take up a day shift, conduct interviews with prominent female figures, and press the play button on the vocals of female artists.
Workshops that go for two hours will continue until March 6 before the main event on March 8.
The radio station on Railway Parade was started as Sydney's first full-time suburban community radio station in 1983. It is operated by more than 100 volunteers.
In the lead-up to the global event that celebrates women and is a call to action for accelerating gender equality, the station will from dusk to dawn, have a line-up of female hosts, program-makers and guests.
The station is also offering a series of free radio production workshops for women of all ages and backgrounds at its studio.
Workshops will cover recording, interview techniques and audio editing.
Women interested can book a place in the workshops by calling project coordinator Pat Cranney 0419261 458 or email ppc617@optusnet.com.au
