A project that brought young and old together was a musical hit this month.
Sutherland Shire Council hosted an inter-generational rap project with Project Youth, District Singers, Endeavour High School music students and Gymea TAFE film students.
It involved 12 participants who created, recorded and filmed a rap song and film clip under the project tagline of “You CAN teach an old dog new tricks”.
The initiative paired older people with younger people to share their stories, experiences and love of music.
Sutherland Shire Mayor, Carmelo Pesce said the project provided an opportunity for the community to connect.
“This project aims to smash stereotypes of what it means to be ‘older’ and demonstrate just how vibrant and diverse our seniors are," he said.
“It’s a chance to celebrate the contributions older people make to their communities and foster inter-generational sharing and learning.”
The creative song writing and recording process was facilitated by Project Youth.
The final music video will be available on the council's YouTube channel In April.
