In reply to the letter from Mr Hans Stephens (theleader.com.au).
Council would like to highlight that the four replacement trees along Wylie Street that Mr Stephens refers to have unfortunately been the subject of tree vandalism.
Council initially replaced the vandalised trees but they have sadly been poisoned a second time.
Council is proud to say that it’s award winning Green Streets program has delivered almost 10,000 trees in the ground to replenish the tree canopy that our residents value so highly.
The Green Streets model ensures tree survival through the selection of appropriate species specific to each site, with a two year maintenance period for new trees to be watered and checked on a scheduled basis.
Unfortunately though, localised tree vandalism does occur.
Council encourages residents to partner with us in looking after new trees, especially during periods of dry weather.
