Sutherland have fallen just short at the inaugural National Premier T20 Championships, eliminated in the semi-finals by eventual winners Carlton.
The Sharks traveled to Adelaide for the titles, winning both their round matches on Tuesday before their semi-final clash with the Victorian club on Wednesday.
While they were missing representative stars Shane Watson and Ben Dwarshuis, Sutherland were buoyed by former Test captain Steve Smith taking over as coach for the championships.
On Tuesday, Sutherland thrashed Tuggeranong Valley by eight wickets in their first match after they restricted their opponents to 7-156 from their 20 overs.
Tuggeranong had looked to be cruising at 2-75 after 10 overs, only for Sutherland to apply the brakes with two wickets each to Tom Pinson and Dan Rixon.
The Sharks cruised to victory thanks to Jarryd Biviano's incredible 103 not out from just 51 balls. With one run needed to win, the opener clipped the ball off his pads over the top for four to bring up a memorable century.
Sutherland then downed City Cyclones by six wickets to qualify for Wednesday's semi-final.
Rixon's 4-13 and Daniel Fallins' 3-8 restricted the Northern Territory club to 9-117 from their 20 overs.
The Sharks made light work of the run chase thanks to Peter Saroukos' hard hitting 61.
In their semi-final on Wednesday, Carlton strolled to victory thanks to Evan Gulbis' unbeaten century which helped the Victorians reach 3-219.
Sutherland though were required to chase a revised target of 225 off 19 overs after rain had interrupted play.
The Sharks' top four gave them a sniff, with Biviano (48 from 27 balls), Saroukos (28 from 28), Jamie Brown (38 from 29) and Tom Doyle (25 from 13) going after the Carlton total.
But a steady flow of wickets would see them fall 46 runs short.
Carlton went on to win the final, defeating University of Queensland by one run on the final ball of the match.
