The St George District Netball Association is the big winner in the upcoming Federal election with the announcement it will benefit from $1 million federal funding boost.
David Coleman, the Federal Member for Banks has met with representatives of St George Netball to announce that the association will be receiving $1 million in Federal funding to upgrade facilities at their Rockdale courts.
Mr Coleman described it as a funding boost that is long overdue for the courts.
“This is the hub for more than 1000 netball players in St George and it should be treated with the respect it deserves,” he said.
Currently, many courts at the Rockdale facility are cracked and desperately in need of repairs – despite the location being home for all of the Association’s affiliated clubs.
This funding will be used to not only repair these courts, but also provide new fencing around the fields.
Mr Coleman has welcomed news of this funding boost, noting the positive impact these upgrades will have on the sporting community.
“I am pleased to be able to secure this much-need funding,” Mr Coleman said.
“For too long, St George Netballers have played in sub-standard conditions,” Mr Coleman said.
“This $1 million funding upgrade will fix that problem.”
The Netball Association’s President, Mr Peter Crawford, has also welcomed news of this much-needed funding boost.
“Our facilities have been in need of repairs for quite some time,” Mr Crawford said. “This funding will ensure these upgrades go ahead, benefitting many local athletes, their families and supporters.”
