A project that represents the struggle of anxiety is being splashed across the exhibition walls of Powerhouse Museum.
Creator and former student of Danebank Anglican School Hurstville, Bianca Sappey, is the HSC student behind the symbolic piece.
Her work was chosen for SHAPE - a collection of innovative works that showcase outstanding major projects from the HSC Design and Technology, Industrial Technology, and Textiles and Design courses from 2018.
As varied as they are creative, these projects provide a glimpse into the minds of tomorrow’s designers.
Ms Sappey made a virtual reality animated short film titled Listen, which demonstrates the challenges of social anxiety.
"My personal struggle prevented myself from focusing in school, feeling safe within familiar environments and being confident in my abilities, has been my main motivation for this project," she said.
"When researching anxiety, I discovered that it is the most common mental health condition in Australia and will affect every person at some point in their life.
"Despite this issue playing a common part in our lives with so many organisations and films dedicated to raising awareness, there is little realistic understanding about the causes and effects of anxiety. Thus, leaving people to feel isolated, misunderstood and afraid to ask for help."
Ms Sappey wanted to combine her passion for film with animation through virtual reality.
"My project tacks an identified need in a 3D field where viewers can see, feel and hear these attacks as if it were themselves," she said.
"Stimulating visual 2D and 3D effects have also been designed to accurately showcase the effects of anxiety; the main criteria for success and design brief. It places someone in the shoes of a student experiencing anxiety to raise awareness."
See it until May 5.
