Rockdale City's start to the season was always going to be difficult.
The Suns were handed two tricky away clashes with bitter rivals Sydney United 58 and Marconi to kick-off their 2019 NPL 1 campaign and have come through the tests with flying colours.
Now, they return home.
Rockdale host Hakoah Sydney City East at the Ilinden Sports Centre on Sunday for the first time in their 50th anniversary season, looking to continue their unbeaten start to the campaign.
The Suns downed the Stallions 2-1 at a soggy Marconi Stadium on Saturday night following on from their 0-0 draw with Sydney United 58 in the opening round where they played for almost an hour with only 10 men.
Rockdale coach Paul Reid said he was proud of his side as they battled back from a goal down at the break.
"I didn't think that we deserved to be down 1-0 at half-time," he said.
"Marconi were probably a bit more aggressive than us in the first half and we got pushed off the ball but we just needed to match them physically and I knew that our football would come through in the end.
"People say subs change games and tonight they definitely did because they gave us energy in the second half and were influential in both the goals.
"We have a really good squad and it was good that we got the three points that we thoroughly deserved.
"Marconi is a tough place to come to and it was also a heavy pitch tonight but we deserved the three points. It's a long way to go but I am looking forward to the rest of the season."
The Stallions took the lead on 20 minutes when Richie Cardozo dinked the ball over David Bradasevic in the Suns goal.
New signing Panny Nikas, who had forced an outstanding save from Marconi goalkeeper Nenad Vekic in the first half, equalised for the visitors after 68 minutes with a precise finish.
Then, with just five minutes to play, an Alec Urosevski cross found the head of the excellent Matthew Lecce to power home the winner.
Kick-off on Sunday is at 4.30pm.
