A man who allegedly drove a getaway car following the shooting death of former bikie boss Mahmoud "Mick" Hawi has been charged with murder.
Police allege Jamal El Jaidi drove a grey Mercedes-Benz station wagon and waited while gunman Yusuf Nazlioglu shot Mr Hawi at close range as he got into his car outside Rockdale Fitness First on February 15, 2018.
Mr Hawi, 37, was taken to St George Hospital but died a short time after.
Police allege the pair, wearing balaclavas, were caught on CCTV as they ran down a nearby lane before they jumped into a silver Toyota Aurion and drove to Bexley.
El Jaidi, 31, was charged last month with possessing a prohibited pistol, alleged to have been found during a search of a Bexley home.
Following forensic and ballistic examination,he was charged with murder at Burwood Local Court on Thursday.
Three other men were previously been charged over the execution-style killing of the former Comanchero leader.
Strike Force Amirs was established by the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad after Hawi, 37, was shot by a man as he got into his car outside the gym on West Botany Street, Rockdale, just after midday.
The alleged shooter ran from the scene before being driven away by another man in a Mercedes-Benz station wagon, which was later located on fire near Chandler Street, Rockdale.
Both men were seen running from the burning vehicle and are alleged to have fled to the Bexley area in a second vehicle, a Toyota Aurion, which was later recovered at Beaconsfield.
As part of the investigation, Strike Force Amirs detectives located a firearm during a crime scene warrant at a home at Bexley. The firearm was seized and underwent forensic and ballistic examination.
Inquiries are continuing.
