St George District Netball will the big winner in the 2019 Federal Election no matter who claims victory.
Federal Member for Barton, Linda Burney has committed $1.085 million for the renewal of the St George District Netball Association courts at West Botany Street, Rockdale if Labor forms government at the next federal election.
This follows last week's announcement by Federal Member for Banks, David Coleman that the Association will be receiving $1 million in Federal funding to upgrade facilities at their Rockdale courts.
Ms Burney's announcement last Saturday follows NSW Labor's pledge of $250,000 for improvements to the netball courts which was announced by Labor Member for Rockdale Steve Kamper and Labor candidate for Oatley Lucy Mannering should Labor win this Saturday's NSW election.
"The election of both Federal and State Labor governments will result in $1.355 million being injected into the local economy for an upgrade to sporting facilities for a sport predominantly played by women and girls," Ms Burney said.
The netball courts are home to the St George District Netball Association which supports 11 clubs from the Bayside and Georges River council areas.
The association's facilities comprising 15 asphalt and 17 grass courts are reaching the end of their useful life.
Labor's commitment will renew the courts' surfaces as well as upgrade ancillary equipment and infrastructure including goal posts, seating, bins, fencing and the car park.
Rockdale MP Steve Kamper said Labor's $250,000 funding package would help reseal and repair hard courts and level out grass courts.
"For more than 60 years SDNA has been a key part of the St George community," he said. "That's why Labor backing them with this investment, so they're in good shape for the next 60 years."
St George District Netball Association president, Peter Crawford said, "Upgrades to our facilities have been a long time coming and this commitment will enable us to vastly improve the playing experience of our more than 1,600 members."
Bayside Council mayor, Bill Saravinovski said the netball courts upgrade, which will be managed by the council, will support 22 jobs.
