There were balloons and banners all around at Anglicare's Mary Andrews Village on Tuesday, when Arthur Miller ticked off 100 years.
He was born on his grandfather's farming property in western NSW on March 19.
His family moved to St George when he was five years of age, and he has remained a loyal resident for the past 95 years.
Despite living through the Great Depression and World War I and II, Mr Miller says his childhood was a happy one due because of the loving sacrifices made by his parents.
After school Mr Miller studied two degrees at Sydney University - a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English and History, and a Masters of Education. He studied during the night while working in the day.
He was a teacher for more than 40 years and had a particular interest in US and modern European history.
Mr Miller met his wife Enid, a mission secretary, at church. They married in December, 1949. They had two children, Ruth and David, and have six grandsons and six great-grandchildren.
For the past five years he has lived at Anglicare's Mary Andrews Village, South Hurstville.
