Peakhurst resident Vanessa Wheeler has been named the 2019 Banks electorate Volunteer of the Year for her selfless involvement with Georges River Life Care and dedication to the local community.
Federal Member for Banks, David Coleman was joined by Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care and Indigenous Health, Ken Wyatt last Tuesday night to honour and recognise volunteers in the Banks electorate who have gone above and beyond their call of duty.
The annual award night was first established in 2015 by Mr Coleman.
More than 60 local volunteers were recognised on the night for their achievements and efforts across a range of different community sectors and organisations.
Guests were also entertained by a performance from local group Sing Australia.
Ms Wheeler has been a volunteer with Georges River Life Care since 2007, now serving on the Life Care Board.
She volunteers her time on a weekly basis, assisting women and children who have been victims of domestic violence.
Mr Coleman has praised Ms Wheeler for her contribution to local area.
"Vanessa is a most worthy recipient," Mr Coleman said. "Her tireless dedication to helping others in our community is to be admired.
"Volunteering is a vital part of our community, without volunteers most organisations simply
wouldn't be able to function," Mr Coleman said.
"That's why I started these awards in 2015, to recognise those people who give so much to others without expecting anything in return."
