1970s
Kirrawee Kangaroos Soccer Club was the envy of other sporting organisations in Sutherland Shire with a most unusual, new clubhouse, which opened in 1971.
The top floor was a building, which originally stood at Ultimo.
It was donated as a clubhouse and removed and stored by club members until the club had a permanent home.
A photo in the Leader's archives show spectators soaking up the sun as they watch a coaching clinic in May, 1970, while construction was still going on.
There have been several changes since the photo was taken, including hand rails, wind protection and an awning on the balcony, and roller doors and a BBQ at ground level.
The club, which was formed in the mid-1950s, had a number of homes before Sutherland Shire Council suggested the present location on Princes Highway.
In May, 1968, the council approved the erection of the clubhouse and work began soon after.
Kirrawee Kangaroos Football Club, as it is now called, says on its website: "There is no doubt that a building of these proportions would never have eventuated without the dedication and knowledge of Laurie Haynes. He gave Kirrawee a building for around $10,000".
1960s
Road authorities believed a flyover was needed at the intersection of Princes Highway and King Georges Road, Blakehurst, to ease traffic congestion.
The flyover would carry south-bound traffic from King Georges Road across the intersection to join south-bound lanes of the highway.
Commissioner for Motor Transport , Mr D R Coleman, outlined a multi-million dollar program of proposed traffic works in a letter to Kogarah Council in 1968.
Mr Coleman said other major steps that would have to be taken were the duplication of Tom Uglys Bridge and a new bridge over Georges River at Mickeys Point (Alfords Point).
The flyover never eventuated, but the $5 million Alfords Point Bridge was opened in 1973 and a second Tom Uglys Bridge completed in 1987.

She grabbed her children and ran down the stairs as the building caved in.
A police spokesman said excavation work had been underway at a site next door.
The restaurant was empty at the time and nobody was injured.

Rev Ross Clifford became a well-known campaigner on moral issues while serving as senior pastor at Gymea Baptist Church from mid-1985 until late 1991.

Rev Clifford, who was a lawyer before joining the ministry, went on to become a prominent church figure, serving as head of several organisations and hosting a 2CH radio program until 2010.
He unsuccessfully ran for a NSW upper house seat in 2003.
