Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced a $61.5 million funding package for roads and commuter carparking for St George and Sutherland Shire.
It is part of the Federal Government's $253.5 million congestion-busting funding boost for NSW.
The package includes $50 million toward widening King Georges Road; $4 million to upgrade the Princes Highway at Waratah Street, Kirrawee; and $7.5 million for commuter car park upgrades at Hurstville.
This follows the State Government announcement last year of $40 million for widening of King Georges Road between Stoney Creek Road at Beverly Hills and Forest Road at Hurstville.
Prime Minister Morrison said the investment would mean people in the St George area would be getting home sooner and safer.
"Our investment means people can spend more time with friends and family and less time trying to find parking," Mr Morrison said.
"This is a significant investment in tackling the congestion hotspots that are costing people precious time and losing businesses money.
"People living in the St George know better than anyone the very real impacts of road congestion and lack of parking and we are doing something about the pinch points and bottlenecks that lie at the heart of the problem."
Federal Member for Banks, David Coleman, who joined Mr Morrison at Hurstville today for the announcement, welcomed the news that the Federal Government will be committing $7.5 million towards fixing parking in Hurstville.
Mr Coleman said parking in Hurstville has been an ongoing issue for some time now.
"Hurstville is the beating heart of our local economy, and it's important that people can get a parking spot in the area," Mr Coleman said.
"Every day thousands of local residents travel to and from Hurstville, and the difficulty in obtaining parking is well known within our community.
"I have been seeking funds to address this problem for some time now, and I am glad we have been able to secure these much-needed funds in order to tackle this serious problem," Mr Coleman said.
"The Federal Government will work with the State Government on the implementation of this important project."
