Caringbah's Jack O'Grady has been crowned Slam Magazine's Australian skater of the year for 2019.
O'Grady, a 19-year-old former De La Salle student, is the youngest to win the Street Skating award which comes after being named the best 'new gen' of the year last year.
Nicknamed 'Squish' by his peers, his heavy onslaught didn't go unnoticed by the thousands of skater of the year voters who backed him to the top of the poll and straight onto the cover of Slam Mag.
When the editor asked Jack about his chances to win the Skater of the year Jack said "that a man can only dream" but Jack put in the effort and made that dream come true.
He put out a series of video footage over the last year after travelling to Greece, New Zealand, China, the US and all over Australia, including the red stained concrete of the outback that couldn't be ignored by the voters.
This is a prestigious award in the street skating arena and a great number of former winners have gone on to turn professional, which is something O'Grady will be striving for over the next few years and will travel to the US towards the end of this year for a few months.
O'Grady started skating at the age of nine and was spotted and invited to join a development squad at Monster Skate Park, Olympic Park.
He won numerous competitions over the years across Sydney and NSW which qualified him for various national finals and a start in a few competitions in the USA.
Sponsored by Nike Skateboarding shoes as a 12-year-old, at 13 he took fifth place in the national finals for under-16 skaters.
After leaving school he was invited to join the Passport Skate Team, with skateboarding taking him all over Australia and the world.
He is sponsored by Nike SB, Passport Skateboards, Carhartt WIP, Spitfire Wheels, Independent Trucks, Sunday Hardware and the Cronulla Lowdown Skate Shop.
