Applications have opened for a new type of state government grant for community projects.
Instead of the local MP making the decision or recommendation, residents will vote online for projects proposed for their area.
Grants of between $20,000 and $200,000 will be made in each electorate for initiatives that could range from a community garden to an inclusive playground or cultural fair.
The initiative, called My Community Project, was announced in the 2018 state budget.
"It's time to bring to life your bright idea to improve the health and happiness of your local community," said Treasurer Dominic Perrottet.
"This program empowers communities to make decisions that will enhance their local community, by proposing and choosing projects to get funded."
A total of $24.4 million will be available for projects that "make communities more liveable, cultural, accessible, safe, revitalised or healthy".
Proposed projects require a sponsor, such as a council, school, TAFE, charity or club.
Applications close at 2pm on May 15 and online voting for residents aged 16 or over will take place between July 15 and August 15.
Successful projects will be announced in September, 2019 and projects will be required to be completed within 12 months.
