Fusion nightclub at Cronulla has received approval to bring forward its opening time from 8pm to 5pm.
Sutherland Shire Council approved the modification along with changes to operational matters, including the area around the venue patrolled by its security staff.
There will be no change to the approved closing time of 3am Monday to Saturday and midnight on Sunday.
Fusion has approval to cater for 440 patrons.
A council assessment report said the earlier opening time for the first floor venue was within the base hours requirement of the shire's development control plan (DCP) and was supported by police and the council's crime prevention adviser.
"It is generally consistent with other pubs and bars, such as The Blind Bear, Mia's Cronulla, Croydon Lane Wine and Tapas Bar and Northies Cronulla Hotel, and with licensed cafes and restaurants that occur within the surrounding area, including Cronulla mall, as well as along Cronulla Street and Surf Lane," the report said.
Fusion originally sought to reduce the area patrolled by its security staff to 20 metres on either side of the nightclub.
The proposal was not acceptable to police or the council's crime prevention adviser.
The nightclub reconsidered and agreed to the council's requirement that security staff patrol 50 metres either side of the premises "to ensure that patrons of the licensed premises do not loiter or linger in the area nor cause any nuisance or annoyance to the quiet and good order of the neighbourhood".
An updated Plan of Management has to be provided to the council within three months.
