Hurstville will rock this weekend with the Live and Local Band Night takes centre stage at the Project Youth Centre as part of Youth Week.
Live and Local showcases bands and musicians from the Georges River region and will be held from 5.30pm to 10pm at the Project Youth Centre's new location, corner of Queens Road and Dora Street, Hurstville.
It is a free event but people are encouraged to arrive early.
Georges River Youth Week started on Wednesday and offers a range of free programs and events for young people across the local government area during the April School Holiday period.
Other events include a Teen Trivia Night (April 16), Theatresports! (April 16 and 23), Youth Homelessness Matters Day (April 17), and a Basketball Knock Out (April 18).
Youth Week is about celebrating the contribution young people make to their communities, Georges River Council mayor, Kevin Greene said.
It also provides opportunities for young locals to express themselves, be social and build local friendships.
The Youth Week entertainment line-up kicked off Georges River Unplugged on Thursday at the new Hurstville Plaza, where participants showcased their talents.
As a highlight of Youth Week, 3Bridges Community Services with the support of Westfield Hurstville will be running a 'Feel the Heat' cooking competition for budding young chefs at Centrecourt in Westfield Hurstville on Wednesday, April 17, where teams of up to six participants can demonstrate their cooking skills.
"I strongly encourage young locals to get a group of friends together and get involved in Youth Week," Councillor Greene said.
"I'd like to commend the efforts of the young volunteers in Council's Youth Advisory Committee, who have played a key role in helping to develop many of the programs and events on offer as part of Georges River Youth Week 2019," he said.
