The Cronulla Sharks are doing their part for a good cause, with a BreastScreen NSW mobile van stationed at Sharks Leagues Club to provide free screening mammograms until the end of the month.
Sharks stars Jayden Brailey, Briton Nikora and Scott Sorensen were on hand during the week to help promote the initiative.
BreastScreen NSW provides free screening mammograms, particularly for women aged between 50 and 74, but also for women 40 to 49 and 75 and over.
The mobile van will be located in the eastern entrance to the leagues club until April 30.
BreastScreen NSW SESI health promotion officer Katie Dorahy said statistics clearly indicated breast cancer did not discriminate in relation to those who may be affected.
"It is a potentially life-saving service and one that local women should take advantage of," she said.
An appointment at the van takes around 20 minutes with screening recommended every two years for women aged 50 to 74. All radiography staff are female and no GP referral is required.
Women can make an appointment online at breastscreen.nsw.gov.au or by calling 13 20 50.
More than one in eight women in NSW will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, with nine out of 10 women diagnosed having no known family history of the disease.
Early detection saves lives and improves the chance of survival, with screening mammograms able to detect breast cancers as small as a grain of rice.
