Southern Districts have come from 13-0 down to score their second straight win to start the Shute Shield season.

The Rebels downed Gordon 31-27 at Chatswood Oval on Saturday to sit four points clear at the top of the table alongside Eastwood after scoring their second bonus point victory.

Gordon, who were playing their first match of the season after enjoying a round one bye, opened the scoring through a pair of Sean Kearns penalty goals.

A converted try had the hosts out to a 13-0 lead before Souths hit back with a try to winger Curtis Rona.

A DeWet Roos try for the Rebels cut the deficit to three points before they hit the lead for the first time when their other winger Will Thomas crossed, with Christian Kagiassis' conversion making it 17-13.

A penalty try had the visitors 11 points clear before Gordon hit back with a converted try of their own. Souths hooker Blake Schoupp reestablished the Rebel's 11-point advantage before Gordon again hit back to trail by four.

Souths also lost Rodney Ma'a to the sin bin but would hang on for the club's only victory of the weekend.

The Rebels went down to Gordon 10-7, 26-12 and 22-15 in second, third and fourth grade respectively, while Souths fell 30-24, 38-0 and 69-0 in Colts.

Eastwood stayed level with Souths on top of the table with a 31-27 win over Manly.

Souths return to Sylvania to host Randwick on Saturday. The Rebels have the chance to condemn the Galloping Greens to their third straight loss.
