The auction of a major private collection of Formula One racing memorabilia conducted by Hurstville's Motorsport Shop is expected to raise close to $200,000.
The collection of Ferrari enthusiast Enza Quarta was held at The Pinnacle, Hurstville, on Sunday, April 14.
About 80 people attended the auction and there were 30 registered bidders for 392 lots which were all sold.
Described as the largest private collection of Formula One Ferrari original memorabilia to come on the local market in more than 30 years, it included models, shirts, helmets, pins, race-suits, jackets, t-shirts and flags.
Centrepiece of the auction was a 1989 Ferrari 328 GTS.
Motorsport Shop chief executive Patrick Wedes said two people are negotiating on the Ferrari at the moment with a price range of around $180,000.
The rest of the collection raised $20,693 so we expect to raise around $200,000," Patrick said.
"There was good spirited bidding," Patrick said. "We started at 11.15am and finished at 4.30pm with everything sold."
"There were a lot of Ferrari F1 collectors with one buyer travelling from Melbourne for the auction.
"The bidding didn't stop. It was a great atmosphere. There were kids urging their fathers to bid on model cars.
"A Senna helmet went for $1500 with a starting price estimate of $300.
"A Michael Schumacher cap unsigned had a starting price of $30 and finished at $180.
"We didn't expect to sell everything.
"We don't expect to see a collection like this for a long time.
"People do often have private collections but not to this extent. No-one could believe it was one person's property."
